Digestion

It’s well-known that cannabis can ease stomach pain and reduce nausea and vomiting. Many even feel that they have no appetite or are unable to digest or process food without the help of cannabis. Cancer and HIV/AIDS patients with medical recommendations often experience this firsthand.

However, in some cases, chronic cannabis consumption may increase nausea and vomiting. Lately, there has been talk of a rare condition known as “cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome”. There is very little research on the topic minus case reports.

Final Thoughts on Marijuana & Sleep

A lack of sleep can do a lot more damage to your life than merely making you feel grumpy and irritable. Did you know that fatigue is linked to over 100,000 automobile crashes and over 1,500 crash-related deaths in the United States alone each year? Sleep loss and low-quality sleep increase the risk of workplace accidents and also harms performance in general.

Sleep deprivation can even lead to serious health issues such as stroke, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and heart attacks. It is estimated that 90% of people with insomnia also have another health condition! Lack of sleep hurts your sex drive, slows your thinking, ages your skin, increases the risk of depression, and increases the risk of unwanted weight gain.

Therefore, if you have problems sleeping, you must do everything possible to rectify the situation. If you have tried altering your sleep pattern, avoided the ‘blue light’ from electronics at night, and attempted to establish a healthy bedtime routine but still can’t sleep, marijuana could be the answer.

Research is divided on the subject, but countless individuals swear by the herb as an effective sleep aid. If you decide to try it for yourself, do so with caution, and make sure you begin with a very small dose to see how it affects your body and mind.

Women's Health
Women, Weed, and Sex: What You Need to Know

A new reason to swing by your neighborhood dispensary? Research suggesting that marijuana may heighten women's experience in the bedroom.

For now, we can rely on that anecdotal evidence of how weed affects women differently, of which there is no shortage. Some personally use cannabis for painful period cramps, as well as when they are training for a long distance race to treat post workout muscle soreness. And some have noticed major benefits in both of these areas of my life— period cramps disappear a few minutes after ingesting CBD oil or vapourizing, and  legs were much less sore throughout  training. And I have heard countless similar stories from many other women—if I were to make a list of the ways cannabis can specifically help women, it would include: PMS, period cramps, endometriosis, menopause, better sex and more.

Weight Loss
The skinny on pot

Despite the stereotype that stoners are lazy and constantly eating, their bodies tell a different story. Several recent studies have found that daily marijuana use is associated with a lower BMI, smaller waist circumference, and lower fasting insulin levels. Some marijuana growers are marketing strains specifically for weight loss. Does that mean cannabis is the secret to losing your love handles? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

“Most observational studies of cannabis use and diabetes or obesity have shown a correlation between cannabis use and lower risk of obesity or diabetes. However, correlation does not imply causation,” says Jeff Chen, M.D., M.B.A., the director of the Cannabis Research Initiative at UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.

Many lifestyle factors could explain this correlation. “For example, perhaps people who are obese or diabetic avoid things like cannabis because of concerns about its health effects,” Chen says. (If that were true, it would diminish weed’s apparent role in helping people stay thin.) “Alternatively, people who consume cannabis may tend to exercise more or eat healthier,” he explains. (If that were true, it would support the notion that weed helps people lose weight.)

Either way, it’s much too early to say that marijuana is the reason why cannabis users are thinner. So far, broad sociological studies on weed use merely indicate correlation, rather than causation.

Stress Study shows that cannabis combats stress, anxiety and depression

Cannabis combats stress, anxiety and depression
The results of the study showed that patients inhaling cannabis saw a significant reduction in their adverse feelings with depression symptom being reduced in 89.3% of sessions. However, the study also revealed that the symptoms of depression were exacerbated in a total 3.2% of sessions, and there was no change in 7.5% of sessions.

Symptoms of anxiety were reduced in a total of 93.5% of tracked sessions but were exacerbated in 2.1% of sessions, and there was no change in symptoms for 4.4% of sessions. Symptoms of stress were reduced in 93.3% of tracked sessions, increased in 2.7% of sessions, and there was no change in reported levels of stress for 4% of sessions.

The study also compared the impact of cannabis on these symptoms between the sexes and found that women perceived a greater reduction in symptoms of anxiety than men did.
